Satellite Takeoff
Satellite takeoff lets you measure visible site features from scaled aerial imagery. Find the site in CivilTakeoff and use the area, length, and count tools on the image. This is useful for preliminary pavement-removal, clearing, and existing-condition quantities when drawings are not yet available.

Find the site and measure visible features
Enter the site location to load aerial imagery. The imagery is georeferenced: its coordinates establish a scale for measurement. Center the image on the site and the features you need to measure.
Draw an area over existing pavement, measure a visible curb line, or count visible structures. Keep each type of work in its own condition and attach the relevant pay items. These measurements can contribute to the project’s quantity totals and Excel export alongside measurements from PDF sheets.
Use names that make the source clear, such as “Existing pavement from aerial.” When issued drawings become available, compare these early measurements with the plan limits and update the takeoff.
Example: preliminary pavement removal
For a redevelopment site without a demolition plan, measure the visible parking area and building footprints to prepare preliminary quantities. Label the measured features, then update the quantities from the removal limits and pavement types in the issued drawings.
Requirements and limits
Imagery may predate recent construction or site changes and shows only visible features. It cannot establish pavement thickness, buried utilities, or features hidden from view. Use issued plans and site information to update preliminary quantities.
