Erosion Control Takeoff
Erosion control takeoff measures perimeter controls, inlet protection, stabilization, and outlet protection from the plans. CivilTakeoff lets you group measurements by device, material, and construction phase. Review the sequence notes and payment units before combining totals, particularly where controls are moved or installed more than once.
Perimeter and inlet controls
Measure silt fence and filter sock by type in linear feet (LF). Count inlet protection, check dams, and construction entrances using the bid item’s unit. Record the device type with each measurement so different details do not merge into a single total.
Surface stabilization
Measure blanket, matting, seeding, and mulch within the specified limits. The payment definition determines whether to use plan area or actual slope-face area. Enter or calculate any required slope correction separately; a measurement from a plan view alone is a horizontal area.
Outlet protection
Use each outlet’s detail for apron length, width, thickness, and material class. Keep riprap and the underlying filter material as separate items. The quantity may be specified in square yards (SY), cubic yards (CY), or tons; follow the project schedule.
Construction phases
Review the controls shown in every phase and compare them with the sequence notes. Identify items that remain in place, move, or require another installation. Match those installation events to the pay item’s definition before combining quantities.
Example: silt fence across two phases
For an example where payment covers each new installation, phase one contains 600 LF of standard fence and 150 LF of reinforced fence. Phase two retains those runs and adds 200 LF of standard fence and 50 LF of reinforced fence. The standard-fence item receives 600 + 200 = 800 LF; reinforced fence receives 150 + 50 = 200 LF. Existing runs shown again in phase two add zero new installation length.
Frequently asked questions
Do I add every silt fence line shown across phases?
Count new installations according to the pay item. A retained run appearing on another phase sheet is not another installation; track removals and relocations separately when the schedule requires them.
Is blanket measured by plan area or slope area?
Use the payment definition. Plan measurements give horizontal area; a slope-face quantity needs slope information and a separate calculation before you assign the total to the blanket item.
How should I split inlet protection quantities?
Count devices by detail type and phase. Keep protection for curb inlets separate from devices for grated inlets when their items differ, and identify replacements separately from retained devices.
